The aim achieved under the first edition of the Catching-up Regions initiative was an attempt to develop a solution enabling increased cooperation between the science and business. This task was significant, specifically due to the R&D infrastructure development of public scientific units within the framework of 2007-2013 financial perspective.
The team of the World Bank in collaboration with the Marshal Office of Podkarpackie Region assisted in designing appropriate solutions between July 2016 and June 2017. Thus, a model for the regional technology center – the Podkarpackie Centre for Innovation (PCI) was created, and the concept of this center was presented in the report by the World Bank on the implementation of this component named “Regional Technology Transfer Center in the Podkarpackie Region: the Podkarpackie Center for Innovation”. Work on implementation of PCI is continued under the framework of the second edition of Catching-up Regions Initiative (information in the section concerning the second edition).
