Light that suits its purpose
LUG, a company offering modern and smart LED lighting systems, provides its services to infrastructure investment, industrial and architectural projects in over 70 countries in the world. It provides LED systems that meet top-notch technical and aesthetic standards. As a part of its strategy, LUG invests, among other things, in the development of smart light management systems.
The project has developed technologies that will become common in the future. They meet current design and energy efficiency requirements. ‘We have been using EU funds ever since they were made available. We resort to EU funding to create and implement innovative solutions. The project has led to 26 industrial design and 4 European patent applications. Our R&D Division developed 46 prototypes of new light fittings,’ says Ryszard Wtorkowski, the CEO of LUG SA.
The company invested heavily in research and development, aiming to prototype a ‘smart transformer’. ‘It was the most important component of the project. Not only does the smart transformer cooperate with energy management systems, but it also collects data from the light fitting. It is fitted with self-testing systems. In the future, it will collect and transfer data from sensors installed in the fitting,’ says Ryszard Wtorkowski. A light fitting with a transformer can be used in ‘smart cities’ that desire to become more interactive and improve energy efficiency of their urban infrastructure. Such solutions are developed by BIOT Sp. z o.o., a LUG’s daughter company.
Efficient LEDs A well-designed LED lighting system limits energy consumption by up to 70-80% in comparison to traditional technologies. It is an effective method of enhancing energy efficiency.
LUG is one of the most rapidly expanding family-run businesses in Poland. The domestic market, which generates about 40 % of its income, is still very important, but company’s international operations secure its stable growth. The group already has five subsidiaries abroad, and in 2018 the company built its first offshore plant in Argentina.
Project: An innovative set of specialist light fi ttings to cooperate with a smart energy management system – from research to prototype Project cost: PLN 6.15 million, including PLN 2.55 million from the European Regional Development Fund, Lubuskie Regional Programme
