The Chamberlain will take care of your home
Who wouldn’t like a chamberlain to do our chores? Someone who not only follows orders but also takes care of our tasks and safety? The Gdańsk-based OKE Poland sp. z o.o. has developed a device that signals any threat to the safety and helps us with routine tasks we do every day.
The Chamberlain, i.e. smart home software, is an original project of the company. Benefits of the project include not only automation of household tasks, but also efficient use of energy and alarm signals sent in the event of hazard.
The Chamberlain comprises of central unit and peripherals that include electronic appliances, cameras, loudspeakers, and microphones. The platform operates online and uses web-based resources. Communication with the device is very simple. We use voice calls to convey our requests or ask questions. The system can switch on the TV set, as well as adjust colour and intensity of the light to the time of a day. Moreover, it can play music and record a shopping list. It can also remind a forgetful person about a meeting or send an email or a text message. When the system detects a hazardous situation, it sends a distress signal.
‘Our system has a unique voice, face and silhouette recognition algorithm. Therefore, we are able to provide functionalities such as the use of voice messages to control home appliances, detect a fall of a person, and detect the presence of people in particular rooms. We can also easily spot a burglar,’ says Michał Wityk, the software developer responsible for the development of the Chamberlain.
Smart system Pets in a house represent a problem for the majority of movement detection security systems. This means that you are not able to set the alarm system on when pets are at home. Not only do Chamberlain’s algorithms distinguish people from pets, but they are capable of identifying a person based on poor resolution photographs.
‘EU funding enabled us to establish our research and development department and we have been able to change the company profile. We no longer need to sell the labour of our IT specialists to foreign companies, but instead, we can engage them to invent our own products,’ adds Sebastian Szaro, an IT specialist.
